  • Scrapping A Car

Posted on October 1st, 2011 | by admin in Car Reviews and News

A scrap car, we all have one every now and then. When times are hard and we are running an old banger, it will inevitably become worn out and not worthwhile repairing. At this point we need to scrap it.

In this day and age there are all manner of rules concerning scrap cars. The environment agency are the main culprits insisting on all manner of things from the scrap car dealer, they are so strict that most scrap metal merchants are not allowed to deal with cars any more. They class a car as dangerous waste and insist that it is de-polluted correctly at all times. The only scrap car merchants now in business legally are the ones who are classed as an ATF (approved treatment facility). They are licensed to decontaminate cars properly and remove not only the battery, oil and other fluids, however, they also remove the precious metals and mercury too. The environment agency are aiming for a percentage as high as 80% for the amount of a car that is recycled and reused correctly. Even the tyres are recycled properly nowadays and can be used for all manner of things.

The EU are also involved in setting the rules and have issued a directive aimed at all European member states and forcing them to comply with their requirements.

Scrap cars otherwise known as ELV’s (end of life vehicles) must end up at an ATF, only licensed carriers can transport them there. To transport a scrap car you must have a waste carriers license, this is issued by the environment agency also.

Scrap Car Buyers are licensed waste carriers and ensure that your ELV is transported to an ATF and that it is de-polluted correctly. They cover the whole of the United Kingdom and offer a tremendously good value for all scrap cars purchased. Based in the West Midlands near Birmingham, scrap car buyers will make all the arrangements for you and ensure that all is done correctly and within the law. They will also sort out the other minefield, which is more commonly known as the DVLA (driver vehicle licensing agency).

All cars collected by scrap car buyers are subject to an official notification to the DVLA. You will be issued a receipt and a form to send off to the DVLA releasing you from any further responsibility for the car.
